MAKING HISTORY AGAIN – At age 28, Ernest Thompson wrote a play that has been translated into 30 languages and performed on stages all over the world. The film version won him an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay.
Now, four decades later, Ernest is not only directing ON GOLDEN POND at the charming Winnipesaukee Playhouse, for the first time ever he’s starring in the iconic role of Norman Thayer, Jr., alongside the wildly talented Lisa Bostnar, Ernest’s frequent costar on stage and in his upcoming film PARALLEL AMERICA.
In addition to writing for and directing a slew of celebrities, Ernest’s acting career has taken him to Broadway, TV and the movies, and now he’s honored to follow in the footsteps of the legions of distinguished actors who have played the irascible, witty and beautifully complicated Norman, including fellow Oscar winners Henry Fonda and Christopher Plummer.
Alzheimer’s wasn’t part of our vocabulary when Ernest wrote the play; this production digs deeper into the implications of how encroaching dementia affects everyone it touches but how life can still be blessed by rich humor and love and the indomitability of the human heart.
