Laconia Daily Sun logoERNEST THOMPSON AND RAY PORCELL AT FUDGE FACTORY SATURDAY NIGHT

Bristol—Academy Award-winning writer of “On Golden Pond” Ernest Thompson and local legend Ray Porcell return to the Lakes Region’s best-kept secret venue, The Back Room at The Mill Fudge Factory on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Special guests include saxophonist extraordinaire Marc “Sparky” Elbaum and, filling in for the hobbled Randy Roos, local guitar phenom and Berklee grad Jarrod Taylor.

A lot has happened since last year’s sold-out engagement at The Mill: “The Journey Goes On,” a CD of Thompson/Porcell songs, has been released on iTunes and Amazon; Time and Charges, Ernest Thompson’s shot-in-the-Lakes Region movie, has been invited to the Maine Film Festival and features “Wishes,” one of Thompson and Porcell’s earliest collaborations; a video of their first, “Brontë Brook,” will soon be airing online; and the songwriters have created another album’s worth of songs, many of which they’ll introduce Saturday night, along with favorites from their 2012 show.

Thompson, whose iconic On Golden Pond has been embraced the world over, nowhere more enthusiastically than in the Lakes Region, and who has written for and directed and acted with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Robert Downey, Jr., Julie Andrews, Shirley MacLaine and Liza Minnelli among them, is an accomplished lyricist as well, collaborating with Carly Simon and Joan Osborne, Natalie MacMaster and another New Hampshire native, Joe Deleault, composer of the scores to both Time And Charges and Thompson’s newest film, Heavenly Angle, also festival-bound this summer (Woods Hole).

Ray Porcell, former owner of Meredith’s EnergySavers and a highly regarded musician, has performed with Tim Buckley, Bruce Springsteen and many others, including, for more than 40 years, the late, great Joe Droukas, of The Bombers.

One of Thompson and Porcell’s new songs, “No Ordinary Joe,” a tribute to Droukas, will be on their set list this Saturday. Thompson, who also collaborated with Droukas on their seasonal standard, “Christmas Is A State Of Mind,” wrote the words to the deeply moving “No Ordinary Joe” the night of Droukas’s death.

Tickets for ”More Words, More Music” can be purchased at 744-0405 or go to www.themillfudgefactory.com and click on The Back Room.
